The Origin of the Q-Collar
The Q-Collar was born from the work of two doctors determined to reduce the risk and severity of traumatic brain injury — on the sports field and beyond. Their invention was developed by Q30 Innovations, a research and development company that engaged leading engineers, fabricators, and independent researchers to turn that original idea into a safe, effective, and rigorously tested medical device.
Since its formation, Q30 Innovations has completed more than 25 pre-clinical and clinical studies on the Q-Collar, 18 of which have resulted in published research. On February 26, 2021, following a thorough evaluation of that research, the Q-Collar became the first and only FDA-cleared device shown to help reduce the risk of traumatic brain injury from repetitive head impacts.
Today, the Q-Collar is worn by professional and amateur athletes across football, lacrosse, soccer, hockey, and many other contact and collision sports.
How the Q-Collar Works
Helmets are designed to protect the head from external impact. The Q-Collar takes a different approach — helping protect the brain from the inside.
Worn snugly around the neck, the Q-Collar applies gentle pressure to the jugular veins. This slightly increases blood volume in the veins and capillaries surrounding the brain, which is believed to help reduce the movement of the brain within the skull when an impact occurs. It's designed to be worn as an additional layer of protection alongside existing equipment, not a replacement for it.
